Fall Education Seminars – November 17 – 20, 2022 – Harrison Hot Springs

The Fall education seminars for the Pacific Region will be held at Harrison Hot Springs Resort. The courses will run from Thursday, November 17th to November 20th, 2022. The following courses are being offered:

BASIC SHOP STEWARD

This course aims to provide new Stewards with basic training, knowledge and confidence. Topics include the different roles of the Steward, how to investigate and file a grievance, communication skills, Shop Steward rights, the Steward as Organizer/Mobilizer, and key provisions of the Urban Operations and RSMC Collective Agreements.

Note: This course is for new Stewards.

CHANGES TO COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT – URBAN

This course outlines the changes to the Urban Operations Collective Agreement between CUPW and Canada Post.

It is particularly recommended for Local Executive members, Grievance Officers and Stewards, but could be offered to other members. Since this is an update course, participants should already be familiar with the Urban Collective Agreement.

CHANGES TO COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT – RSMC

This course outlines the changes to the RSMC Operations Collective Agreement between CUPW and Canada Post.

It is particularly recommended for Local Executive members, Grievance Officers and Stewards, but could be offered to other members. Since this is an update course, participants should already be familiar with the Urban Collective Agreement.

GRIEVANCE HANDLING

This course is suited to Stewards with some experience.

The aim of this course is to reinforce the participants’ grievance knowledge, as well as their investigation and advocacy skills. Topics include: Shop Steward Rights, Distinguishing Between Fact and Opinion, Active Listening and Duty of Fair Representation. Participants have opportunities to work on being assertive and to practice preparing and arguing grievances.

In the module “It’s more than grievances”, they explore their role as workplace organizers and look at alternatives and additions to the grievance procedure.

To be considered all applications must be signed and submitted by the Local President or their designate. Once the Local signs applications, the Local must submit all signed and completed applications directly to Regional Office. The deadline for registration is 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday , October 12, 2022. Please ensure your applications are in by that date, any application received after the deadline will not be considered.
