THE STEPS TO REPORTING WORKPLACE INJURIES

If you are injured at work, take the necessary steps to report the injury immediately, or as soon as is feasibly possible to a Canada Post supervisor, no matter how minor the injury may seem. Many minor injuries can become worse, and if it becomes necessary to file a WCB claim at a later date, you will want to have a record of your injury.

For minor injuries follow these steps:

  • seek first aid
  • report your injury to your supervisor

For serious injuries follow these steps:

  • seek first aid
  • report your injury to your supervisor
  • seek medical attention
  • keep a copy of all medical documentation
  • report your injury to WCB by calling Teleclaim, 1-888-WORKERS (1-888-967-5377)

Always remember to report all hazards to your supervisor, a CUPW representative on your Local Joint Health and Safety Committee, or a Shop Steward.

Protect yourself – document everything, and keep copies of all forms and reports which you have submitted to your supervisor.

CUPW has Worker Advocates available to assist you in filing a claim, or an appeal when necessary.

Know your rights! Article 33 of the Collective Agreement outlines our rights with regard to health and safety, and Canada Post’s responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
