Together for Lapu-Lapu: CUPW Fundraiser

CUPW Vancouver extends our deepest sympathies and unwavering support to the victims, their families, the Filipino and Sunset communities in the aftermath of the tragic events of April 26. The harm caused is immeasurable, and while nothing can undo the pain, we are committed to assisting in the process of collective healing.

It is in this spirit of camaraderie that our Vancouver Local is organizing a local-wide fundraiser from May 2 to May 22 to support the affected communities. We will have volunteers on every work floor ready to collect donations. All of the funds we raise will be donated to United Way BC’s Kapwa Strong Fund. 100% of your donation will help provide immediate assistance, counseling and trauma services, and other critical support as the community begins to heal. The funds will also go to families that were directly impacted, will provide access to essential needs (like meal and gas vouchers), and events and spaces for the community to connect and share resources.

We believe it is equally important to raise awareness of the many mutual aid efforts and community initiatives that continue to support those impacted.

We encourage you to use the following QR code for the Vancouver Filipino Emergency Response Collective to access a wide range of helpful resources:

It includes links to additional fundraisers that directly aid individuals whose lives were irreversibly altered by the tragic events of that night. It also provides resources for counseling and other support services.

For those who wish to give further assistance and demonstrate solidarity beyond monetary donations, The VFER Collective has also compiled a list of community spaces and gatherings dedicated to collective healing.

What happened this past Saturday is heartbreaking. But in the face of tragedy, it has been the strength and unity of the people that have shone through—coming together in solidarity, compassion, and shared humanity.

Every donation, every act of support, every gesture of kindness, matters. Let’s stand together in support of those who need it most.

As we move forward from the tragic events that marked this year’s Lapu-Lapu Day Festival, we are reminded not only of the sorrow we share, but also of the courage and resilience that define Filipino heritage. In the face of unimaginable loss, we find strength in the legacy of Lapu-Lapu—the indigenous hero who stood firm against adversity and Spanish Colonization. His spirit of resistance lives on in each of us.

We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their families. We stand united with the Filipino community in Vancouver and around the world. Our grief is profound, but so is our commitment to uplift our communities, support one another, and face the future with unity and determination.

Together, we honor the past, strengthen the present, and shape a brighter, more compassionate tomorrow.

In Solidarity,

Organizing Committee
