2018 Summer Institute for Union Women July 10 – 14, 2018

There is an opportunity for 2 Sisters from the Vancouver Local to attend the 2018 Summer Institute for Union Women. This is the 37th annual Western Regional Summer Institute and this year the SIUW will be held at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park California.

Please note the Union will not be providing book offs to attend the SIUW, successful applicants will be required to request leave (annual, comp., etc) from Canada Post. Participant registration, transportation, and accommodation costs will be paid for by the Local. You must currently possess a valid passport.

“SIUW brings together dynamic activists from unions, worker centres and community organizations in California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and abroad for 4 days to develop and deepen organizing skills, to learn how to become a leader in their union, and to take on issues that concern women in the labour movement. This is a rare opportunity for rank and file, elected leaders and staff — both cisgender and self-identified women — to grapple with the big picture issues that the labour movement is facing as well as how issues affect women in the workplace, the home and in their communities”.

Successful applicants will stay on the University campus and participate in core courses, workshops, and other events during the week. The 2 sisters selected to attend will be expected to present a report of their experience at the 2018 SIUW at the next Local General Membership Meeting.  (July 22, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Maritime Labour Centre).

You must have attended at least 1 General Membership Meeting in the last 12 months to be considered and you must complete the attached application form in full and return it to the local by application deadline.

Deadline for applications is Tuesday May 29, 2018, at noon.

*Please note that the Local reserves the right to forgo selecting any applicants.*
