This course trains members to become union observers and enhances their knowledge of the letter carrier route measurement system (LCRMS). Participants develop the skills and technical knowledge needed to be union observers during volume counts and letter carrier route restructures. They also deepen their knowledge of LCRMS with the aim of getting the most out of the system for the member.
Note: Participants should have taken the 2.5-day Updating Routes and Basic LCRMS course.
Advanced Shop Steward
This course gives experienced stewards an opportunity to assess their strengths and work on the areas they want to improve. Participants review grievance investigation basics and practice face-to-face communications, including meetings with management. Other topics include self-care, strategies for shop floor mobilization and recruiting new stewards, the duty of fair representation, the rights of temporary employees and OCREs, and the Short-Term Disability Plan.
Note: This course is for experienced stewards.
The deadline for registration is 3:00 p.m. on July 30th, 2025. (NO EXCEPTIONS) Please ensure your applications are in by the date, any application received after the deadline will not be considered. Understanding that there are limited opportunities, preferences will be given to impassioned members who demonstrate their commitment to their Union and Community. Incomplete applications will not be considered – no exceptions.
To be considered, all applications must be signed and submitted by the Local President or their designate. Once the Local signs the applications, the Local must submit all signed and completed applications directly to Regional Office. As this course is offered under the PEL provisions of our Collective agreement, all costs including loss of wages, transportation and meals will be paid by National Union.
This education program falls under Article 11.06 of the National Constitution and expenses for delegates are paid under Article 7.42, which include meals, transportation and accommodation. Reimbursement for childcare expenses is also available.
Interested members should be aware that there will be some evening sessions involved and that all sessions of the course are mandatory.
