The Publications Committee is requesting submissions for next month’s copy of the UPDATE! We are looking for short submissions (50-100 words in length) of stories about what is happening during your shift.

How is your SSD restructure going? Are your shifts changing after the open bid at PPC? Do you have a softball league with your coworkers and have a game coming up?

Send all submissions to [email protected] for consideration. Email us to make alternate arrangements, or come find a Pub Committee member!

The Organizing Committee is hosting our second open meeting this Sunday! (June 1st) It’s going to be held in person at the Sun Wah Center: 268 Keefer St (Chinatown). 4pm – 6pm! Every Member is welcome to attend.

This next open meeting will be focused on making plans for events and tabling opportunities for the next year! We have big plans for 2025 and want to collaborate and hear ideas from Members outside the committee (but please note that only committee members are eligible to vote). It would be fantastic if you could come through and share any community events, block parties or festivals that our Local could participate in. Even if you can’t make it – you can share them at the email listed below!

We often hear from many members that they wish to get more involved and ask how they can contribute and support. This is the perfect opportunity to do that! Our committee runs a little bit differently, our meetings are run by consensus and we are striving to be as horizontal as possible in our structure. Everyone is welcome to come. You will be given space to speak and also encouraged to share any ideas and strategies that you may have.

We are excited to inform you that registration is now open for the Summer Institute for Union Women, which will take place at Simon Fraser University on the unceded Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish territory in Burnaby.

SIUW is a comprehensive leadership institute with skills-building workshops, cultural activities and education sessions designed to expand our understanding of solidarity and rebuild connections across our region. This event is for all Women and trans women, non-binary, queer and those who are comfortable in a space that centers our experiences.

Our national office has issued 72 strike notice. Your local executive was not informed, or received any communication from the national office until after it had already hit the media. We learned about it the same way you did.

This step was taken in part to respond to Canada Post’s notice that could unilaterally change working conditions and suspend employee rights and benefits. Canada Post walked away from the table and is purposely waiting until there is less than 72 hours to make an offer.

 This is not the time to panic. There is still time to return to the bargaining table.  Please do your best to plan for a job action, so that you are prepared in case it happens. Keep in mind that just because the notice is issued, doesn’t mean that we will strike.

 Let’s do our best to remain calm, and remain ready. We’ll let you know as soon as we learn anything more.
