New VHE-9 Position Coming for Vehicle Mechanic/Technician at Glen Drive

Some CUPW members may not be aware that the Urban Collective Agreement includes vehicle mechanics/technicians who work in the garage located on Glen Drive in Vancouver. Glen Drive is responsible for vehicle maintenance and repairs throughout much of the Lower Mainland. Most of these workers are classified as VHE-9 and their wages can be found under Group 3 in Appendix “A” of the Collective Agreement.

Canada Post has recently informed the Union that they will be creating a new VHE-9 position at Glen Drive. There is also a possibility that more positions could be created at a future date. Work that was previously contracted out for the vehicles at the Capilano Delivery Centre was recently brought in-house. The Union is also, by way of the Appendix “T” committee, actively pursuing an additional expansion of the work performed by these members.

If you are a CUPW member working under the Urban Collective Agreement and have the qualifications (see below) you can apply to transfer to a VHE-9 position by completing a CUPW-UPO Application Request Form (transfer form). On the transfer form under the heading Requested Post Office indicate that your choice is “Pacific Processing Plant” and enter “VHE-9” under Requested Classification. You can obtain a copy of this form from your supervisor.

To obtain a VHE-9 position, you must hold provincial certification or a Red Seal inter-provincial certification as a vehicle or truck mechanic. You also must have work experience in the trade.

If you are interested please act quickly to ensure that your application is considered.
