BC Teachers Picket Lines

The Teachers are now engaged in full scale job action.

At this point in negotiations, few of the teachers’ issues have being resolved. Our public education system is under attack by our right wing governments just like Canada Post while people like Christy Clark enroll their children in private education classes to avoid the cuts they have imposed. It can be easily seen why teachers are on strike.

Locals are encouraged to participate in activities designed to support the teachers while they are on strike. CUPW fully supports the necessity of this strike.

When the teachers are on strike, CUPE staff is honouring their picket lines. It is not safe for postal workers to cross. There is nobody inside that normally handles the mail.

A Picket Line is a Picket Line
The employer is showing its usual level of disrespect by posting notices in the order books and telling our members to barge through the teachers’ picket lines.

The union respectfully requests that you talk to the picketers, they are human beings, and if they ask that you not cross their line that you bring the mail back to the depot and inform your manager that you wish to hold the mail until the actual staff will be able to receive it.

If Canada Post management practiced common sense, they would allow you to hold the mail since it is mostly CUPE staff who handle this mail and so that the mail will not get lost by some incompetent manager who is not used to distributing the mail.

Please note, our CUPW Support This Struggle placards are available for purchase from the Regional Office for a cost of $2.80/card+shipping. Please contact your union representative to place an order.

In solidarity,
