Basic Shop Steward Course
Friday, September 22, 2017, and
Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 8 am – 4 pm
Vancouver Local Union Hall
Unit 130-111 Victoria Drive, Vancouver
Application Deadline: Friday, September 8th, 2017, by 12 noon.
The aim of this course is to provide new stewards with knowledge and confidence. Topics covered include: the roles of the steward, tips for dealing with management and speaking with members, the steward as organizer/mobilizer, how to investigate and file a grievance, and key provisions of our collective agreement. Priority will be given to newly elected Shop Stewards.
You will be booked off for your entire shift if you are regularly scheduled to work on the course days. Please ensure your course application includes your regularly scheduled shift and work area/depot. Applications can be downloaded online at the Vancouver local website www.cupw-vancouver.org.
A light lunch will be provided.
**You must have attended at least one General Membership Meeting, in the last 12 months, to qualify for Vancouver Local courses**
